A. Macarthur Barr Middle School STEAM and Fabrication Labs
Bringing Learning to Life
Since 2007, KSQ Design has proudly served as the district architect for Nanuet Union Free School District, overseeing the planning of all design projects. Completed in Fall of 2023, A. MacArthur Barr Middle School’s new STEAM and Fabrication labs bring learning to life for students through high tech manufacturing tools and industry-grade programs.
Featuring cutting-edge technology such as 3D printers, laser cutters, a CNC Mill, and a Video Production Studio, students now have the tools to tap into a new level of imagination and creativity through hands-on experiences. Equipped with the latest professional technology, these state-of-the-art labs have allowed Nanuet UFSD to continue its legacy of empowering the newest and brightest designers, engineers, and innovators.
Designing an Active Classroom
This addition was designed with flexible furniture that suites multiple modes of learning. Desks can be assembled in formations that best suit the current project, whether it is a group collaboration, class-wide demonstration, or independent work.
While students may spend the majority of their work time facing computers, the classroom can be strategically organized to ensure that students also face each other. This setup promotes peer collaboration and feedback, enabling students to celebrate and learn from each other's achievements, discovering the extent of their capabilities.
To further compliment the creative nature of the space, bright colors fill the interior of the lab. This contributes to an inspiring environment and fosters a sense of energy and enthusiasm within the workspace. Furthermore, the incorporation of ample natural light illuminates the labs, creating a well-lit and inviting atmosphere. This intentional design supports a positive and vibrant atmosphere that encourages creativity and productivity.
