Dosher Memorial Hospital and KSQ celebrated the third and final phase of the hospital’s renovation and expansion this past week with the opening and dedication of the Dr. Robert Zukoski Patient Care Unit. KSQ Principal Wayne Gregory, AIA, attended the ceremony and shared in the culmination of this healthcare design project.
Prior to the renovation, the hospital was struggling with a 1970s-era building that wasn’t up to the Dosher standards and expectations for patient care. This project involved a complete overhaul of existing rooms along with the creation of seven new and larger rooms, a patient pick-up area, a gift shop, an inpatient discharge area and upgrades to the hospital’s central plant. The first 15 patient care units were unveiled in January, but it wasn’t until this past weekend that the entire project was open to the public.
The Dr. Robert Zukoski Patient Care Unit–the third and final phase of the project–was introduced by Dr. Zukoski himself on Sunday. The new 25-bed unit offers a larger, better centralized design for current and future healthcare delivery methods.
“The design of this project has transformed the patient unit rooms from an outdated and cramped facility into 25 spacious private patient rooms with private baths and room to accommodate visitors while also providing separate space for staff,” said Wayne. “The hospital board, administration, staff and the community are delighted with the transformation of the patient unit and what it now provides for the hospital and the wider community.”
“We cannot begin to know the number of eyes, hands and hearts that have touched this project from vision to completion. We are proud and excited about the enhanced level of care to our patients and the improved comfort experience for the patient and the family.”
